Mercantile Bank Employee goes above and beyond to ensure customers safety during Tropical Storm Fay!


John When Tropical Storm Fay came through the Jacksonville area in late August, everyone was concerned about the possible damage that might result. While many other banks closed, Mercantile Bank stayed open so that customers could take care of their banking needs. Branch employees called customers to let them know we were open and available to them. Mercantile Bank’s President sent a special recognition of our employees’ commitment demonstrated in keeping our branches open. His comments included:

“Thanks again to everyone in Northeast Florida for the dedication and effort you each made in keeping our offices open last week during the stormy weather! It obviously impacted the public in a very positive way.”

One Mercantile Bank employee, John, a Financial Advisor in Northeast Florida, received special recognition. On Friday, when the storm was in very close proximity to Jacksonville and at its worst, John received a message from a customer asking him to return the call. John tried to return the call about 30 minutes later, but no one answered at the customer’s home. John called again several times throughout the day, but when the phone continued ring and ring, John began to get concerned.

He decided to stop by the customer’s house on his way home because “it wasn’t too far out of my way.” This person had been a customer of Johns for over 5 years and he just wanted to be sure everything was okay. When he arrived in the customer’s neighborhood, he found that a tree had fallen, taking out both the electricity and telephone service. John said he “just did what anybody would have done.” But we think he went above and beyond. The email sent to John by the bank President expressed it best:

“You make us all proud here at Mercantile Bank. I appreciate your personal concern, which extends beyond business.”

This is one of the reasons John has been so successful with customers in various locations in Florida, Georgia, South Carolina, North Carolina, and Connecticut. He builds relationships that exceed customer expectations.
